The Sokoto state governor who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested and lost the presidential primary of the PDP. Former vice president Atiku Abubakar beat him to the ticket.
According to Daily Trust, the list was displayed at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state. The list showed that Manir Dan’iya is listed as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Manir Dan’iya was the immediate past commissioner for local government and community development . It was reported that 34 candidates would contest for the seat. However, the news outlet reported further that sources within the commission said the candidates are up to 50. “There are more candidates and their credentials would be displayed this week,” the source was quoted to have said. In a related development, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, the PDP chairman in the state, while reacting to the list, was quoted to have said that there is no cause for alarm as there is still time for substitution.
Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state promised to work with the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) towards ensuring that the party emerges victorious in the 2019 presidential election.
